Verify OpenSSH Server availability<\/strong><\/p><p>Open <strong>PowerShell as Administrator<\/strong> and run:<\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">Get-WindowsCapability -Online | Where-Object Name -like 'OpenSSH.Server*'<\/code><\/p><ul><li>If the state is &#8220;Installed&#8221;, skip to step 3.<\/li><li>If the state is &#8220;NotPresent&#8221;, proceed with installation.<\/li><\/ul><p><\/p><p><strong>2. Install OpenSSH Server<\/strong><\/p><p>Run the following PowerShell command:<\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name OpenSSH.Server~~~~0.0.1.0<\/code><\/p><p>This installs the built-in OpenSSH Server component available in modern Windows versions. <\/p><p><\/p><p><strong>3. Start and enable the SSH service<\/strong><\/p><p>After installation, start the SSH service from PowerShell:<\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">Start-Service sshd<\/code><\/p><p>Set it to start automatically at system startup:<\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">Set-Service -Name sshd -StartupType Automatic<\/code><\/p><p>This ensures SSH remains available after reboot.<\/p><p><\/p><h2 data-id=\"allow-ssh-traffic-in-windows-firewall\"><strong>Allow SSH traffic in Windows Firewall<\/strong><\/h2><p>To allow inbound SSH connections (default port 22), create a firewall rule using PowerShell:<\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">New-NetFirewallRule -Name \"OpenSSH-Server\" `<\/code><\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">-DisplayName \"OpenSSH Server (sshd)\" `<\/code><\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">-Enabled True `<\/code><\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">-Direction Inbound `<\/code><\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">-Protocol TCP `<\/code><\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">-Action Allow `<\/code><\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">-LocalPort 22<\/code><\/p><p>This enables remote systems to connect via SSH.<\/p><p><\/p><h2 data-id=\"verify-the-ssh-service\"><strong>Verify the SSH service<\/strong><\/h2><p>Check the service status from PowerShell:<\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">Get-Service -Name sshd<\/code><\/p><ul><li>Status should be <strong>Running<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p><strong><\/strong><\/p><h2 data-id=\"test-ssh-connectivity\"><strong>Test SSH connectivity<\/strong><\/h2><p>From a remote machine, connect using the following from a command prompt:<\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">ssh &lt;username&gt;@&lt;server-ip&gt;<\/code><\/p><p>Example:<\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">ssh administrator@192.168.1.10<\/code><\/p><p><\/p><h2 data-id=\"key-based-authentication-recommended\"><strong>Key-based authentication (recommended)<\/strong><\/h2><p>It is strongly recommended to use Key-based authentication instead of passwords, this is more secure in the long term.<\/p><p>Generate your private\/public key pair as usual or by using instructions in step 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/community.withsecure.com\/home\/leaving?allowTrusted=1&amp;target=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.withsecure.com%2Fuserguides%2Fproduct.html%23business%2Fradar%2F4.0%2Fen%2Ftask_E8B6320224864E2BACE58C50834A2294-4.0-en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener ugc\">Key-based authentication (recommended) | Radar | 4.0 | WithSecure User Guides<\/a><\/p><p>Append your public key to <em>C:\\ProgramData\\ssh\\administrators_authorized_keys<\/em> file.<\/p><p>Note: standard users use personal <em>C:\\Users\\username\\.ssh\\authorized_keys<\/em> file, but for administrator permissions, global <em>administrators_authorized_keys<\/em> file is used.<\/p><p>Verify that the correct key is present, and the file is formatted correctly.<\/p><p><code class=\"code codeInline\" spellcheck=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><em>ssh-keygen -l -f \"C:\\ProgramData\\ssh\\administrators_authorized_keys\"<\/em><\/code><\/p><p>Note: A very common mistake is using invalid line ending characters. Read on for more details.<\/p><p>This is creating an abnormal load on our API, which can be impactful to both WithSecure and our other customers.<\/p><p><\/p><h2 data-id=\"facts\"><strong>Facts<\/strong><\/h2><ul><li>Older Security Events are never updated, so if you have retrieved them once there is no need to retrieve them again. Retrieving them again incurs bandwidth usage and processing cycles both for you and for WithSecure.<\/li><li>We have a limitation of 30 days of Security Events per request, although this is not currently enforced. From the <a href=\"https:\/\/community.withsecure.com\/home\/leaving?allowTrusted=1&amp;target=https%3A%2F%2Fconnect.withsecure.com%2Fapi-reference%2Felements%2F%23post-%2Fsecurity-events%2Fv1%2Fsecurity-events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener ugc\">documentation on Security Events<\/a>, we have the following:<\/li><\/ul><div class=\"tableWrapper customized\" style=\"padding-left:0px\"><table><colgroup><col style=\"min-width:80px;width:300px\"><\/col><col style=\"min-width:80px;width:300px\"><\/col><col style=\"width:100%\"><\/col><\/colgroup><tr style=\"height:196.05325317383px\"><td><p><strong>persistenceTimestampStart<br\/>&#13;\ndate-time<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td><p>Lower bound for persistence timestamp in the returned security events. This much-requested feature gives users a more comfortable viewing experience in low-light environments, supports work in control rooms and during night shifts, and offers another way to personalize the interface based on individual preference.<\/p><h2 data-id=\"background\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/h2><p>Dark Mode has been one of the most requested improvements for the Elements portal for some time. Many users spend long periods in the portal in environments where bright interfaces can be distracting or tiring, especially in control rooms or during work in darker settings. Managed clients will get all these changes automatically.
