{"id":4338,"date":"2026-06-08T17:56:14","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T14:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/support.withsecure.com\/en\/?post_type=support_article&#038;p=4338"},"modified":"2026-06-08T17:56:14","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T14:56:14","slug":"how-do-i-backup-and-restore-the-policy-manager-server-database","status":"publish","type":"support_article","link":"https:\/\/support.withsecure.com\/fi\/support-articles\/how-do-i-backup-and-restore-the-policy-manager-server-database\/","title":{"rendered":"How do I backup and restore the Policy Manager Server database?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Issue:<\/h3>\n<p>How to backup and restore Policy Manager Server database ?<\/p>\n<h3>Resolution:<\/h3>\n<p><span><span>Read the following instructions completely before you start working on the server.<\/p>\n<p><b>If you want to keep the DNS name, just move h2db to the new host, stop the old host and start the new one.<\/p>\n<p>If you change the DNS name of the server, you must follow the instructions below.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Create a <b>backup<\/b> of the Policy Manager Server:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span><span><b>Stop<\/b> the Policy Manager Server service:<\/span><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,monospace;\">Policy Manager 15: <strong>net stop fsms<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,monospace;\">Policy Manager 16: <strong>net stop wspms<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span><span><b>Back up<\/b> the directory:<\/span><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Policy Manager 15:\u00a0&lt;F-Secure Installation Folder&gt; \\ Management Server 5 \\ data \\ h2db&gt;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Policy Manager 16: C:\\ProgramData\\WithSecure\\NS\\Policy Manager\\Policy Manager Server\\data<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span>Note: Please copy the database to a different location than the one Policy Manager is installed in<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Restart the Policy Manager Server service:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,monospace;\">Policy Manager 15: <strong>net start fsms<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,monospace;\">Policy Manager 16: <strong>net start wspms<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span><span>Now perform the installation on the new server.\u00a0<\/span><span>The current installation file can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withsecure.com\/us-en\/support\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>here<\/u><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Note<\/b>: <\/span> To avoid the communication issues, use exactly the same ports by the installation like for the old WithSecure\u00a0Policy Manager Server<span>.<\/p>\n<p><span>To <b>restore<\/b> secured Policy Manager data:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span><span><b>Stop<\/b> the Policy Manager Server service:<\/span><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,monospace;\">Policy Manager 15: <strong>net stop fsms<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,monospace;\">Policy Manager 16: <strong>net stop wspms<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span><span><b>Copy<\/b> the backup to the correct location:<\/span><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>Policy Manager 15: &lt;F-Secure Installation Folder&gt;\\Management Server 5\\data\\h2db\\<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>Policy Manager 16: C:\\ProgramData\\WithSecure\\NS\\Policy Manager\\Policy Manager Server\\data\\<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span><span><b>Restart<\/b> the Policy Manager Server service:<\/span><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,monospace;\">Policy Manager 15: <strong>net start fsms<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,monospace;\">Policy Manager 16: <strong>net start wspms<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span><span>After the installation is complete, the new Policy Manager Server has the complete domain structure, including the settings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After logging into the old server using the Policy Manager Console, <b>enter the address of the new Policy Manager Server <\/b><\/span>in the\u00a0<strong>Settings &gt; Windows &gt; Centralized management &gt; Policy Manager Server host communication settings\u00a0<\/strong>a<\/span>nd distribute the policies for all your policy domain.
