Duplicate Elements Endpoint Protection device appears on the Portal devices list even if –use_smbios_guid parameter is used during installation

Issue:

A duplicate Elements Endpoint Protection (EPP for Computers or EPP for Servers) device appears on the Elements Security Center Portal's Environment > Devices list, even if the parameter –use_smbios_guid is used during Elements Agent installation and reinstallation.

SECL.log shows:

  • .W: SMBIOS::getUID: Detected empty smbios id: 03000200-0400-0500-0006-000700080009. Ignore it

Resolution:

If the SECL.log from the WithSecure diagnostic file shows a .W: SMBIOS::getUID: Detected empty smbios id: 03000200-0400-0500-0006-000700080009. Ignore it entry, it means that the system does not have a unique ID.

This ID is well known placeholder that hardware manufacturer did not change to an unique one. It is used for many system boards and cannot be used for identification.

In some cases it is possible to update the ID to get an unique one. You should contact the hardware vendor about this problem.

Without unique SMBIOS ID, Elements Agent will use random generated ID that will change after reinstallation.
