Business Suite migration to Elements Endpoint Protection fails when using the bs2elements.jar file

Issue:

Business Suite Client Security or Server Security migration to Elements Agent fails when using the bs2elements.jar file.

After policy-based installation has been performed through the Policy Manager Console's installation tab, either:

  • Nothing happens on the client side and policy-based installation status shows "in progress"
  • Client Security / Server Security is uninstalled but after Elements Agent is not installed.

Resolution:

If nothing happens on the hosts after distributing the bs2elements.jar file as a policy-based installation, we recommend to check that the clients have been able to receive the policy. You can select a policy domain from the domain tree and then navigate to the Status > Centralized management page to make sure that the policy in use shows Latest status.

If hosts have been able to receive the latest policy, we recommend to try to disable Tamper protection for the hosts and then try the installation again:

  1. Select a host or policy domain from the domain tree
  2. Go to the Settings tab
  3. Navigate to Windows > Centralized management settings page
  4. In the Bypassing product security section, disable Enable Tamper protection
  5. Distribute the policy (Ctrl + D)

Then remove any existing policy-based installation tasks from the Policy-based installations table by selecting them and clicking Clear row on the Installations tab.

Then delete the current bs2elements.jar file from the Installation packages page. Then you can download and import the latest version of the bs2elements.jar package: Migrate computers | Elements Endpoint Protection | Latest | WithSecure User Guides

If Client Security or Server Security is uninstalled from a device but Elements Agent is not installed, we recommend check the connectivity is stable and there are no firewall blocks towards any required WithSecure Services, since Elements Agent installation requires a network connection.

You may run the Connectivity Checker tool to look for any possible blocks. Do also ensure that both “local system” and “network service” have access to our services. The Connectivity Checker tool can be downloaded from here:  Support tools | WithSecure™

Note: Even after a successful migration from Client Security / Server Security to Elements Agent, the Policy-based installations table will show in progress status for the task, since after Client Security or Server Security is uninstalled, they cannot report back to the Policy Manager Server with the end result of the task.
