Is it possible to downgrade a Policy Manager Server to an older version?

Issue:

Is it possible to downgrade Policy Manager Server to an older version? For example is the administrator able to downgrade / rollback Policy Manager Server 16.11 back to 16.10?

Resolution:

We do not have a database migration process that would revert the upgraded database structure. This means that there is no easy feature which you could use to rollback or revert to an older Policy Manager Server version if you have upgraded your Policy Manager Server.

The only way to revert back to an older version would be that you have database backup from the version before the upgrade. You could then install the older Policy Manager Server version on a server with the older installer and then restore the database from the backup.

Instructions on how to restore the backup to a Policy Manager Server installation:

To restore backed up Policy Manager data:

  1. Stop the Policy Manager Server service (net stop wspms)
  2. Copy the contents of the backup that you want restore from the c:\ProgramData\WithSecure\NS\Policy Manager\Policy Manager Server\data\backup folder to the C:\ProgramData\WithSecure\NS\Policy Manager\Policy Manager Server\data\h2db folder.
  3. Restart the Policy Manager Server service (net start wspms)
  4. Log in to the Policy Manager Console
